UCONN Huskies: Pure Dominance

Rebecca Lobo, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart, Paige Bueckers, Aaliyah Edwards I can keep going but these are just some of the legendary basketball players to play for Uconn & Coach Geno Auriemma.

For as long as I can remember and have been watching march madness on the women’s side, the huskies have not only participated but have been dominant as champions.

What’s not broken, there is no need to fix right? Uconn just has the right formula and system in place for winning. Although their last championship came in 2016, the huskies have made it to the last 3-4 final fours. Riddled with injuries, the team wasn’t able to get over the hump.

However 2025, was their year. With leading scorer Paige Bueckers fully healthy and leading the charge the journey to title #12 for the program was in sight. Before we discuss the journey to title #12, let’s take a quick look back on the previous 11 national titles and no that is not a typo. LOL

UConn’s National Title Winning Years: 1995,2000,2002,2003,2004,2009,2010,2013,2014,2015,2016

During this time, nobody was touching Uconn, I remember it got to a point they were winning so much the conversation started to switch to who is going to be able to stop them, who is going to take the crown, why do they keep winning sooo much??..

Recruiting plays a huge part in team consistency, trust, and overall faith in a program. Geno has been the head coach for as long as I have been to watch and comprehend the sport of basketball. His coaching longevity also plays a huge role in Uconn’s dominance. He still has passion for the game, teaching, and entrusting young women who are eager to learn, grow and elevate into the professional league (WNBA) seamlessly. I am not saying he is perfect by any means but he knows what he is doing to set his program up for success year after year.

Coming into this year’s NCAA Tournament for Division 1, UConn was seeded #2. They were actually the underdog compared to the #1 Seeds: Texas, USC, UCLA, and Defending Champs South Carolina who were seeking to repeat.

Road to title #12 for the Huskies:

  • Round 1- Beat Arkansas St. (15)
  • Round 2-Beat SD St. (10)
  • Sweet 16-Beat Oklahoma (3)
  • Elite 8- Beat USC (1)-no Juju Watkins due to injury, huskies were still dominant and the game was very good despite Juju not playing.
  • Final 4: Beat UCLA (1)- Blowout, Dominant Huskies win- Azzi, Sarah , Paige led the way
  • Championship Game- Beat South Carolina (1)- in another Dominant Game, Kaitlyn Chen, Sarah Strong, Azzi, Paige. It was a full huskie team effort to title #12.

This tournament is always so fun for me to watch and engage with. I normally complete a bracket but this year decided to just relax and make my picks based on each game. I definitely picked Uconn to win the title they were honestly due for one and were playing very determined.

I am happy for them and excited to see where the team goes next.

Since winning the title, the WNBA DRAFT has completed, Paige was drafted #1 to the Dallas Wings, her two teammates Kaitlyn Chen and Aubrey Griffin were also drafted ( Golden State & Minnesota). I can’t wait to watch and support this upcoming season. Congrats Ladies and Go Kill it this season in the W.

As for the huskies that didn’t enter the draft, I am excited to see the progress of Azzi, Sarah Strong, and others. Let’s run it back one more time :)!

Congrats again on a phenomenal season!.

Next week we head to Paris, Team USA is on the cusp toward their 5th Olympic Gold Medal.. can they do it? Find out next week as we discuss Netflix’s special Court of Gold.

The 3 point King; 4000 and counting…

There are always certain where were you moments in sports that you just never forget as well as players.

Stephen Curry is definitely one of those players who leaves you speechless with a jaw dropping moment.

For example, the 2016 game winner he hit against OKC with Mike Breen on the call, by far one of my favorite plays in his career.

Steph has solidified himself as one of the all-time greats. December 14, 2021 in Madison Square Garden, he officially became the All- Time 3 point leader in NBA history surpassing none other than Ray Allen. That night was super fun, emotional, and one I won’t forget. Watching a player since college, his growth, the countless amount of criticism he receives on a day and day out basis, and constantly have to prove himself.

You would think a 4x NBA Champion, Finals MVP, NBA MVP, 3 point leader, Gold Medalist wouldn’t have to constantly prove himself over and over again but what do we always say, if you don’t have at least one hater are you really doing it right? LOL….

From three pointer number 1 to 2,974 ( passing Ray Allen) to 4,000+ it is amazing to just state the fact that the amount of work, strength, confidence, and conditioning goes into such an achievement. Keep in mind these are MADE three point shots, just imagine where the number would be if he didn’t miss. It is very astounding. I am always in constant awe whenever I get a chance to watch the chef cook it up on the court. I have also been blessed to see him in person as well. My hope is to get to another game before he hangs it up.

March 13, 2025 at home against Sacramento, Stephen solidified himself once again by hitting the 4,000 three point milestone. Congrats Steph! Keep changing the game for good and moving the needle. I feel like Steph at this stage in his career now is honestly in some of the best shape he has been in just overall stamina and his teammates. Having a good on the court team structure as well as trust makes for milestones like this truly inspiring. His teammates, coaches, trainers trust him to do his job but also have lots of fun along the way.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Steph, I’m pushing for championship number 5. If the warriors would get it done, He will join the exclusive company: Magic, Kareem, Michael, Kobe, just to name a few. I know that is the one title he is seeking. With the playoffs on the horizon the western conference is going to be as competitive as ever. If any team can do it , Golden State can…Remember 2022?! Never ever count them out! With the 3 point king on their side.

Again Congratulations Steph on accomplishing a huge milestone. Your impact on the game is definitely seen, imitated, and imagined. There is only one Chef Curry! Keep shooting and when it’s all said and done on your hall of fame career, I can’t wait to see what the overall All-Time 3 point number ends up being.

Celebrate this moment and Kill it in the playoffs ๐Ÿ™‚

As always I appreciate my readers! Check back with me next week. We head to the NCAA and celebrate the UCONN Huskies!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Kevin, Kyrie, Russell: The Saga Continues….

The NBA is one the best leagues for entertainment especially during the off season. Now although the end of the NBA season was captivated by the Warriors winning their 4th title in 8 years as a team, the trade deadline is taking over the summer. Throughout the season, the biggest topic of discussion was Kyrie with his refusal to be vaccinated , Russell and his lack of looking like he still in his prime, and whether or not KD could lead a team to a championship without Kyrie.

Thinking through all of these stories and how they captivated the season, now that the season is done the next question is will these players be in new jerseys come next season or be with their current. My thing is this, why request a trade if you don’t plan to stay with the team who had to give up so much just to sign you.

If you don’t know by now, Durant requested to be traded from Brooklyn less than two years with his team he asked to be traded too after choosing to leave the Warriors. This poses the question if KD will ever understand how to be true leader. I mean, true leaders of teams don’t bounce around, they usually try to stick it out. And before the Lebron stans comment, Lebron although a leader left his hometown team to join already established teams to win championships. I remember speaking to a friend about Kevin’s current request and the response was like didn’t he just get to Brooklyn why leave? Add in the Kyrie distraction drama and now Brooklyn is a mess. As I kept reading different sports articles pertaining KD & Kyrie, I started to see they both wanted to be traded and still play together and the Lakers is the only team Kyrie is demanding to be with. Now how would any of this make sense, let alone the amount of money and future draft picks you would have to give up because how high caliber each player is.

With the Lakers being the hypothetical new destination for KD or Kyrie, Westbrook is now being thrown in the conversation. Russell did mention he tends to stay in LA for now but if this trade from Brooklyn somehow happens which is highly unlikely seeing that teams don’t want the contracts of either player, it poses the question should NBA players be given the opportunity to be traded or requests trades less than two years after already being traded? I would love to know to your thoughts!

For me I think, if you are just traded your window should be at least 3 years. If you remember, KD was out for almost a year when he signed with the Nets due to his achilles injury. The Nets made the playoffs twice but have been bounced out of the first round. So because you weren’t successful right away you just walk away and give up? It took the Bulls 7 years after Michael Jordan was drafted for them to win their first championship and after that well you know the rest. I see a life lesson in this potential trade situation, you have to be okay with failure, having to wait for true results, and it may take years for success but as you go through these ups and downs you are building a foundation for solid success. So why not trust that everything you are dedicating to your job will eventually pay off? It will (whew) I needed that motivation for myself.

I hope that KD & Kyrie just stay in Brooklyn and figure it out and have a serious conversation about what they expect from each as teammates going forward instead of leaving and taking the same drama to another established team. As for Westbrook, I believe he stays with the Lakers and has a good season with them coming up and proves to everyone doubting him why they call him Mr. Triple Double!

Guess we will have to wait & see….

Mamba Mentality 2020

We don’t quit, We don’t cower, We don’t run.

We endure & conquer.. That’s the mamba mentality

Kobe Bryant

January 26,2020 will be a day none of us will ever forget. We lost 9 beautiful people way too soon.ย  I have been trying to comprehend it and the lesson God is trying to teach through their lives. It still makes me sad, so I am going to do my best to not make this a sap post.

Most of you guys know if you have been following my posts from the beginning or even my instagram that I love Kobe Bryant as an athlete and person. I have grown up with Kobe and a lot of his later milestones happened to occur during some big milestones for me. In 2010, I graduated high school and the Lakers won the title! Kobe’s 5th ring. In 2016, Kobe scored 60 points in his final game… I graduated from college with my bachelors degree. Basketball has always been apart of my life.

To lose someone who is known for just his hard work, determination, passion, and just love for the sport is really heavy, then to have to hear his daughter Gianna was with him breaks my heart.ย  It literally takes your breath away. I am not going to discuss the emotion part of it but I want to discuss the mentality and work ethic Kobe started to enstill in Gianna and her teammates as well as everyone else he touched.

The Mamba Mentality to me is diving head first into your passion and being the best at it and working everyday to perfect your craft whatever that may be.

For me, my passion is bringing value to a company no matter where I work. I want to be the best at my job and if that means going to work everyday early and having the mindset to be ready to learn, I will continue to do that. I want to be able to help people succeed, because someone always came along side me to help me and sometimes I even had to help myself. This year no matter how many obstacles come my way, I am going to continue to be the best I can be and accomplish all my goals and stay committed to writing.

For Kobe, his mentality and work ethic began to spill into GiGi as she started to develop and become better at basketball. Practicing everyday, staying committed to your craft, having goals and working everyday to do them. Gianna could’ve picked any sport but she picked the sport her dad dominated. GiGi was great in her own right. I saw some highlights of her game and she was going to be a female force to be reckoned with and I was excited to see her continued growth. Her mindset and foundation was strong from the beginning.

If anything, I hope that people see how much love and appreciation he gave to her and her teammates as well as encouragement.

Think about what your biggest goal for 2020, and how will you achieve it? Write down the process, and go to work every single day to achieve it.

Out of all the accomplishments Kobe received throughout his entire career, I believe firmly his biggest accomplishment was being the best father and husband he could be to his family. There is nothing like a father’s love and you could see how happy he was spending time with them.

My heart and thoughts also breaks for the other families involved in this unexpected tragedy. Please keep them in your prayers as they grieve.

We remember the beautiful lives:

Payton Chester

Sarah Chester

Christina Mauser

John Altobelli

Alyssa Altobelli

Keri Altobelli

Ara Zabayan

Kobe Bryant

Gianna Bryant

Their lives and legacies will not be in vain. They will never be forgotten and their spirits will live on forever.

#ArmoredMind

12;46am..August 4, 2019,

As I am writing this so many thoughts are swirling through my head…..writing just helps me to clear my head when I have no one to talk too especially in the middle of the night.. just the reality…

I have been reading this a book by David Goggins called Can’t Hurt Me. If you have heard of him he was a Navy Seal and now a avid runner.. His book goes into detail about his life and his struggles to overcome and push through. I bought this book months ago, started reading put it down for awhile and decided to finish it.

I called this blog armored mind because it really struck me in a way that made me think about what hold me back from fully letting go and just living or even pushing through for that matter. Throughout the book David gives challenges of facing whatever is holding you down in the face and conquering head on. Sometimes you need a smack in the face to knock you back into reality.

Challenge 5 discusses visualization and the purpose of recognizing the obstacle stopping you from success. Obstacles can be anything on your mind that keeps from just saying YES. Most of the time it is your own self. I can be honest, I get in my own head especially when things don’t go my way. I overthink to the point where my mood will change and shut down.ย  After dealing with so much rejection in my life, when things don’t go exactly the way I SEE them, I question was it even worth it? Was it worth being in my feelings because I didn’t get what I wanted without knowing that better was on the way.

Alot of times, I have to take a step back, BREATHE and take it one day at a time…I am learning not to let my mind control me. What I mean by that is, I will never stop being me but I won’t hold myself back from just living my life and celebrating success and celebrating failures or rejections. It’s not always you, sometimes people don’t appreciate what they really have until it’s no longer accessible.

Having a armored mind, you can really embrace the failures, success, and just the WAIT period. I know this blog may be all over the place slightly lol but I wanted to just open up a little bit to those of you who read my blogs. I am perfect the way that I am, flaws and all.

I will leave you with an excerpt from David’s book Can’t Hurt Me:

pg.162: ” You can’t prepare for everythingย  but if you engage in strategic visualization ahead of time, you’ll be as prepared as you possibly can be. That also means being prepared to answer the simple questions. Why are you doing this? What is driving you toward this achievement? Where does the darkness you’re using as fuel come from? What has calloused your mind? You’ll need to have those answers at your fingertips when you hit a wall of pain and doubt. To push through, you’ll need to channel your darkness, feed off it, and lean on your calloused mind.”- David Goggins

I appreciate all of you who take the time out to read my blog it means alot! ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time…

The Hate is Real…..

champs

The NBA Finals are underway with the 2 time defending Champion Golden State Warriors taking on Rookie Coach Nick Nurse and the Toronto Raptors.

I remember listening to a interview by Coach Kerr and he mentioned trying to 3 peat is really hard to do. It is a constant battle but it can be done. Coach Kerr knows what he is talking about he is a 6 time champ with the bulls being a key piece for one of their games.

The goal all season for Golden State has been to win another championship and basically shut all the haters up. Let your haters be your motivators and for whatever reason, everyone and their mama hates on GSW.

I get it the NBA is a business and mostly for entertainment now but if you want my honesty put some respect on their name. There was a time when the Warriors under Don Nelson struggled to make the playoffs and if they did they were booted out round 1. (yes, I have been watching and riding the warriors since the struggle years). Now that they are so dominant, it’s nothing but criticism, not as much praise. Analysts make it worse but that is their job sometimes, feed into the hype and continue the narrative.

Are you mad at the fact you have to face them every year? Are you mad that they have dominant shooters and defenders when they are HOT and shooting lights out. Golden State can destroy teams on both ends of the court and it’s fun to watch. You blink and they are up 30 in the 3rd quarter. We need that intensity the rest of these finals…BLOW THE RAPTORS OUT!…

With the Finals this year and injuries pouring in, the question becomes can the Warriors finish it? My answer: HECK YES! It just won’t be a cake walk. Yes I wanted them to sweep Toronto, but the NBA wants to drag this series out as long as it can go. I believe it will go 6 games with Golden State closing it out and winning it at Oracle. This being the last season the Warriors play in Oakland, it will be bittersweet to finish at home in front of your crowd.

Stephen Curry gets the most hate and it’s inspiring how he deals with it. Andre Iguodala said it best: ” I like Steph, I never see the hate he gets because people are jealous of what he has, I am going to do everything I can to protect his legacy” . Andre for one is a real one, real brother, real teammate. His statement shows me that the relationships and respect the Warriors have is real, not a lot of teams can say that. Stephen is the leader, his faith is strong, his character is stronger.ย  I can see why people are jealous of him and get frustrated when they have to play him but remember his journey has always been as the underdog. He fuels off that but I think it pushes him to rise to the occasion. Game 3, Stephen scored a playoff career high 47 points with assists and rebounds. If his teammates would have made some of the shots they missed , they might have pulled it out. But hey, take it one game at a time. Game 4 will be quite different especially if GSW gets Klay Thompson & Kevin Durant back. Kevon Looneyย  they really needed but he is out due to a injury caused by a foul which I think could have been prevented. I hope he gets healthy soon.

Warriors are going to do it! I want them to pull this out, They are the defending champs and 3 peating will make them apart of an elite club. The last team to 3-peat was the Lakers in 2002.(2000-2002). The Warriors will continue to fight..they got this!

The Hate is Real….but the confidence, strength, and heart of a champ is realer…

Thanks so much for reading!

Playoff Update :)

nba33

The NBA Playoffs are in full swing as the final 4 teams have started their quest toward the NBA Finals.

In the east you have the Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors; In the west you have the Golden State Warriors and the Portland Trailblazers.

The east series will be exciting to watch as Kawhi and Giannis battle back and forth. The Bucks won game 1 108-100.

In the west, Golden State , behind Steph Curry took down the Houston Rockets in 6 games unfortunately without Kevin Durant who suffered a right calf strain to move on to the West Finals. The cool part about this series against the Blazers is that Steph gets to battle his younger brother Seth. All brotherly love! Golden State took Game 1 116-94.

As both series progress it will be interesting for Golden State with the timetable of KD and Demarcus Cousins uncertain, how they settle in against Portland. I have no doubt in my mind they will prevail but one game at a time.

Game 2 for the Warriors/Blazers is tonight on ESPN.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know who you got winning both series, I would love to hear your thoughts!

I appreciate all my readers!

East vs West

The NBA Playoffs are in full swing!!!

The Eastern Conference is as strong as it has ever been with no Lebron this year. It is quite interesting to see. The semi-finals are underway with the Celtics and Bucks &76rs and Raptors.

Paul Pierce made an interesting statement after the Bucks lost Game 1. He said the series was over and that Boston was going to sweep them. Paul first of all should’ve just kept that to himself lol. The Bucks came out in Game 2 and beat boston in team fashion. That game was good to watch. I am sure the Bucks are going to come out very strong in Game 3. Keep making Pierce eat his words!

The Philadelphia 76rs and Raptors series is real good too. Lots of grit, heart, passion in this one. This series is also tied 1-1. Jimmy Butler went off in Game 2 and helped his team tie the series heading back to Philly. I know the east teams will make me proud, my focus has been in the western conference.!

The Western Conference is always the conference to watch! To me it is the most entertaining. The surprise in the west this season is the Denver Nuggets. I love a good underdog, even though I am pulling for my Warriors to win it all. It will be fun.

The Portland Trailblazers and Denver Nuggets are tied 1-1, I would love the blazers to close this series so Seth and Steph can play each other in the Finals! That would be lots of fun ๐Ÿ™‚ and I mean who wouldn’t want to see brothers battle it out on the court and push each other. Seth is an assassin on the court when he is in a rhythm. We shall see how this series plays out!

Now grab your popcorn because the real movie is now in session….HA…..

Rockets vs Warriors Round 2….

As you can remember last season the Rockets and Warriors played a gritty series, with Chris Paul missing the rest of the series due to injury. The rockets are now out for revenge and will do anything to beat Golden State or at least try too.

Game 1 was so chippy and fouls everywhere… Curry, Thompson, Iguodala combined for 14 fouls. CRAZY..right?!…Complaints from Diva James Harden and his side kick Paul regarding fouls and having a fair chance of play. The Rockets had more free throw attempts than the Warriors and it was Curry who closed it out for his team and protect home court.

Game 2…was called alil tighter but KD who has been having an amazing playoffs put his team on his back and went OFF!.. Klay is back in a rhythm, Curry dislocated his finger but was still able to pour in 22 points to go up 2-0 over the rockets. James Harden had 29 points as well after leaving with a eye injury that he said affected his scoring, but he had a pretty decent game, I will give him that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m super excited for Game 3 and the rest of the games to come between the East and West Teams.

Let me know who you got winning it all!

Hi my name is: Zion Williamson

zion

You can’t deny God given talent! Hello Zion!

I have been hearing about Duke University’s Phenom Zion Williamson for awhile now and I figured I would dedicate some time to talking about him and my thoughts on his future! To only be a freshman forward and to average almost 30 p.p.g (points per game) night in and night out is something special. You know you are something to watch when celebrities and even President Obama stop by to watch you play. From what I have seen and read, Zion comes from a humble family who cheer him on and support his dreams.

We all know Zion is NBA bound, but as a freshman you never know how much potential someone has just by projecting them to leave school after their first year. There have been so many talks by analysts, fans, coaches, NBA players all giving their thoughts that he should come out and enter the draft. or even sit the rest of the season and not play. I think he should still continue to play while he can, his successes will come regardless of how outsiders feel. He has been gifted the talent to play a game I love so muchย  and should be able to play as long as he can. Zion has a bright future ahead! Zion has been projected the #1 overall 2019 draft choice for a team, do you think cutting himself short 3 more years of education and playing time to improve and get better would be beneficial?

The NBA is a business, a very lucrative business but can come with a cost. For example take John Wall, most people know John played for Kentucky for one year and left school for the draft.ย  He was drafted #1 overall by the Washington Wizards and has had some explosive years. The cost of coming out of school early for him has unfortunately in the last few years or so injuries, playoff losses, and constant rebuilding of a team. We can always ask what if? but there is no point in doing that lol. We can’t deny the success of the Wall Star, but is the money worth all the injuries and possible damage to your body long term. Zion has the body of Lebron James, so he definitely needs to take care of his body as we saw Feb.21 he left the game with a real bad knee sprain and exploding shoe. Again I ask, is potential worth bodily, long-term injury?

I am not saying this will tarnish all the great things Zion has done or will do but I would rather him take it easy and be 100% than risking further injury. Only time will tell what lies ahead for Zion’s future, which I know will be amazing things. I hope he listens to his heart and not the outside media. He at the end of the day knows what is best for him! Go Zion Go! I can’t wait until he is back on the court after his injury and playing again. He is definitely a player I will be watching! Get well soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Zion Williamson’s future is bright….I am excited and I know Coach K has a great one on his hands.

I appreciate all the feedback I have received from my blogs. ๐Ÿ™‚
